Learn which AI tools can enhance your communication

- AI tools are constantly changing and adapting, but generally they fall into a few major categories. In this video, I'll give you categories of AI tools you can use. First, written communications. These types of tools can help you with nearly any type of interaction, so as long as you can describe it with words. With a text-to-text tool, you enter a text-based query, and it gives you a text-based response. This type of tool is best used for getting feedback on your communication or crafting new communications. For example, you can ask AI to draft an email to your boss, create an overview for a presentation, or draft an agenda for an important meeting. But remember, unlike a search engine, using AI tools is more like a dynamic conversation where you can adjust your request as you go. This course is being filmed at the one-year anniversary of ChatGPT being released. It's hard to believe how much the space has changed in that short time. The concepts and principles I share in this course will remain helpful even as the tools evolve. For now, here are some tools to consider. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity AI and Anthropic. Second, image generation and feedback. This category of tools can create images or videos based on your text input. You can also upload an existing image for feedback and have it change the image as desired. These are helpful in supporting your communication with applicable visuals and storytelling aids. AI tools in this space can make presentations, enhance profile photos, or create graphics to support your argument. For example, let's say you have a sales presentation and want to create an image that shows teams working together. A text-to-image tool could create an image in your company's brand colors, and even in multiple styles, like as a cartoon, an oil painting, or even as a black and white photo. Never use those boring old generic stock photos again. Tools to consider: Dall-E and Midjourney can create any image from a text prompt. Remini can enhance your profile photo or change your outfit or background. Canva can create images. Third, data analysis. AI tools can also help you analyze information contained in files and tables. With these tools, you can upload spreadsheets, PDFs, or other datasets, and AI can help analyze, summarize, and even answer questions about the data inside. A graph can be worth a thousand words. These tools can streamline your communication and create graphics to support your arguments and make you more effective when sharing ideas. One way we have used data analysis AI tools at Science of People is with our personality science. We have a personality test we often administer to whole teams. By uploading the results to an AI tool, we were able to, in minutes, summarize the personality dynamics of the entire team, see where personality conflicts between groups might arise, and create graphics to share with the team for immediate comprehension. Tools to consider: ChatGPT, Anthropic, and Microsoft Copilot now all allow you to upload datasets for analysis. Fourth, multimodal. Instead of giving an AI tool a text prompt, many tools now allow you to provide images, audio, or even have full conversations with them. These are incredible for getting feedback on your communication. For example, Zoom now has an AI tool that will help you summarize a meeting and create action steps. Tools to consider: Runway, Pika, ImageBind, and MusicLM. My team and I at Science of People have released a free tool called Charisma Coach, where you can upload text, images, and audio to get feedback on your communication. To practice, upload a video or transcript of a previous meeting, and ask an AI tool to give you recommendations on how to make the meeting better.
