We have done a ton of weapon lists for Dark Souls 3, but most weapon types don’t have as many as the Straight Sword. Not only is it one of the most common weapons to use, but they are also some of the best weapons you can use in the game. Most people will use a Straight Sword on their first game playthrough.
There are 17 Straight Swords in the game, and they are all good, but there are a bunch that is better than others. They are extremely easy to use and make a great weapon for a person’s entire playthrough if you want it to.

We included a couple of DLC weapons, so if you want to use every single one of these weapons, you will have to own both the Ringed City DLC and the Ashes of Ariendel DLC to be able to use them all. Most people will have the DLC, so you probably don’t have to worry about that. Here are the best Straight Swords in Dark Souls 3.
12. Lothric’s Holy Sword
Location: Obtained by transposing theSoul of the Twin PrinceswithLudleth of Courlandfor 5,000Souls.
This is one of the longest Straight Swords in the game and makes it a great addition to your collection. You will need to transpose the Soul of the Twin Princes to get it, so it is relatively easy to get if you can defeat the Twin Princes. There is one thing that makes this sword even better, though.
You can combine this sword with Lorian’s Greatsword and turn it into the Twin Princes’ Greatsword. The downside to this is that you will have to defeat the Twin Princes twice on a single character to be able to do this. This weapon alone is a great weapon to use without the combined weapon.
11. Astora Straight Sword
Location: Found in theHigh Wall of Lothric, on a path hidden behind some barrels after passing through the rooftop area, inside a chest after you drop down to the scaffolding below.
This weapon is nothing special. It has no elemental damage unless you Infuse it with a Gem. It is a very basic sword that is good if you want to have a challenge. The skill is also a basic Straight Sword skill, which is also not great.
The scaling is decent, which is why it is on the list. Whatever you do with this weapon will be a good weapon choice, but it is recommended that you choose one farther down on the list. There are better weapons than this one.
10. Valorheart (DLC)
Location: Obtained after defeating theChampion’s Gravetender and Gravetender Great Wolf.
This is one of the unique Straight Swords. Not only is it a sword, but it also has a shield to go with it if you two-hand the weapon. It also has a cool skill that is unique to this weapon. The only downside to this weapon is that it is very stamina-heavy.

It also has some pretty good scaling that makes this a great weapon to choose. It has a pretty fun moveset and some of the best poise damage out of any other Straight Sword. If you are looking for a great weapon with a shield, this is one of the best options.
9. Gotthard Twinswords
Location: Found inLothric Castle, on the lifeless body ofBlack Hand Gotthard, just before the entrance to theGrand Archives. The body will only appear once the player has defeated the first threeLords of Cinder.
This weapon has got to be one of the coolest-looking weapons in the entire game. Straight Swords have some of the best-looking weapons out of any other weapon type and are extremely easy to use. If you are new to this game or the series, these are a great choice to get you into the game.
The Twinswords in particular, can’t be found until later in your playthrough, so remember that they take upgrade material, but only enough for one since it is counted as one weapon. If you two-hand it, you will pull another sword like the Sellsword Twin blades.
8. Barbed Straight Sword
Location: Found in theCathedral of the Deep. Guaranteed drop fromLongfinger Kirk, who invades as adark spiritupon reaching the main open area located between the twoGiant Slaves.
This sword is a great addition to your collection if you like using Bleed weapons. Not only does it have the same moveset as the Long Sword, but it deals increased damage over time with the Bleed damage it deals to the enemy you are fighting.
The weapon does have worse scaling than any of the other swords, but the Bleed is what makes this one stand out. If you don’t want a weapon dealing Bleed damage, you might want to find one a bit lower on the list. If you like Bleed, this might be your go-to Straight Sword.
7. Irithyll Straight Sword
Location: Found in theUndead Settlement. Guaranteed drop from theBoreal Outrider Knightguarding the entrance to theRoad of Sacrifices.
This is one of the only weapons in the game that inflicts frost damage without any infusions. It is very easy to get since you must pass the enemy that drops it to progress into new areas. Frostbite is great because it slows down everything the enemy has to combat you.

It will decrease their stamina recharge, and it will also keep them from healing if they can. It is one of the best elemental damages in the game, and this sword should be one of your main choices if you are looking for a great Straight Sword.
6. Broken Straight Sword
Location: Dropped byHollow SoldiersandPraying Hollow Soldiers. Enemies can also drop it in the Cemetery of Ash, Road of Sacrifices, and the Cathedral of the Deep.
This might seem like a joke, but the weapon is very good. Not only does it have very low stamina consumption, but it also is fully infusible and upgradeable. It doesn’t seem like it would be good, but believe us, it is a great weapon to choose.
It obviously has its downsides with its short reach, but the weapon’s fastness makes up for that. However, you need to get close to your enemy to get your attacks in. Think of it as a dagger that isn’t based on Dexterity.
5. Dark Sword
Location: Dropped byDarkwraithsinFarron Keepand theHigh Wall of Lothric.
This is an insanely cool weapon. It is by far one of the best-looking Straight Swords in the game, and it is just as good as you think it looks. It has some insanely good scaling, and it scales best with Strength. It also has a long reach for those who dislike getting close to their enemy.
It also has a skill that is very common to see in larger weapons. This makes it a great option for those who like heavy weapon skills but don’t want to have a massive weapon with them. Plus, you can get this weapon pretty early on in your playthrough.
4. Ringed Knight Straight Sword (DLC)
Location: Found inThe Ringed City. From theRinged City Streetsbonfire, go towards theJudicator Giant, turning right before reaching the sunken church guarded byRinged Knights. It can be found next to the sunken corpse.
This is my favorite Straight Sword in the game. It is only found in the Ringed City DLC, so you need to own it and get it later in your playthrough. What makes this weapon so good is the skill it has. You can extend the sword by 2 times, which will deal fire damage.
You can then use it in multiple combos, making it a great weapon for both PvP and PvE. It also has some insanely good scaling for those people who rely mostly on Strength. It is a very light weapon so it won’t use up too much stamina in a fight.
3. Sunlight Straight Sword
Location: Found inLothric Castle, dropped by aMimicin a room adjacent to the whitewyvern.
This is an odd Straight Sword because it doesn’t scale off of Strength. It actually scales off of Faith. You can Infuse it to make it scale with other things, but we mostly talk about the base weapon without Infusions. It also shares the movesets with the Long Sword.

What makes this weapon special is the fact that it has C scaling in Faith. This is a great option for those who want a weapon with their Faith builds. If you are a pure melee build, then this weapon will probably not be a good one for you.
2. Lothric Knight Sword
Location: Dropped byLothric Knightswho wield them. It can also be purchased from Greirat of the Undead Settlementfor 4,000Soulsonce he returns from his second scavenge expedition inIrithyll of the Boreal Valley.
This weapon with the Long Sword is the easiest Straight Sword to get in a new playthrough. You can infuse this weapon and upgrade it to +10 like normal. If you Infuse this weapon with a Sharp Gem, then you will be able to get S scaling in Dexterity.
That will make this weapon insanely good for Dexterity builds. Anything else you Infuse it with won’t give you nearly as much as a Sharp Gem, so take advantage of that if you have a Dexterity Build. Otherwise, it is a great sword for any build.
1. Long Sword
Location: It is the starting equipment of the Knight Class. You can purchase it from Greirat of the Undead Settlementfor 1,000Souls or from enemies within the Road of Sacrifices or the Cathedral of the Deep.
As we said before, this is by far the easiest Straight Sword to get in the game. You can either start as the Knight class and get it right away, or you can defeat some basic Hollowed enemies in the High Wall of Lothric.
It has a very low stat requirement and makes for a great weapon throughout your entire playthrough. You can also infuse it with any Gem that you would like to make this weapon even better than it already is. It is the best Straight Sword for both PvP and PvE battles.
